Job Description: Superintendent

Location: Apopka, FL

 

Southland Construction, Inc. is a general contractor providing vertical, heavy highway, and utility construction services in Florida since 1977. Southland has employed as many as 205 full time experienced people with a wide variety of talents second to none in the construction industry. We perform services for both public and private clients with projects ranging from $200,000 to $100 million.

 

The Superintendent will assist the project manager in all aspects/phases of the projects, both in the office and the field, including start-up, scheduling, submittals, quality control, project safety, cost control and ultimately, the total delivery of the project according to the established plans and specifications.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Direct all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications

  • Prepare work schedule, determine manpower requirements, material quantities, equipment needs, and supervise completion of final punch list

  • Site Health and Safety officer, Promote job site safety, encourages safe work practices

  • Conduct onsite meetings and distribute schedule updates and meeting minutes

  • Complete daily reports

  • Advise Project Managers of potential problems, work interference, and schedule difficulties; assist in resolving problems as required

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to get along with customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management

  • Must be computer literate with the ability to submit all payrolls electronically 

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Preferred candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • 5+ yrs. experience in Heavy Highway construction 

  • Prior experience with drainage, sewer, water, site improvements, and retaining walls is preferred

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Strong communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills to keep that project on schedule and on track
