Job Description: Entry Level Position for College and High School Students

Southland Construction, Inc. is a general contractor providing vertical, heavy highway, and utility construction services in Florida since 1977. Southland has employed as many as 240 full time experienced people with a wide variety of talents second to none in the construction industry. We perform services for both public and private clients with jobs ranging from $200,000 to $100 million. 

 

SCI is looking for college and high school students who want to explore careers in the construction of roadways, underground utilities and bridges. 

 

Opportunities:

 

·         Earn $16 per hour and overtime.

·         Serve on a set rotation of different crews over a 12 week period, exposing you to all aspects of our work; pipe crew, grade crew, survey crew, bridge crew, safety.

·         Participate in a weekly debriefing session with an experienced supervisor.

·         Become eligible to participate in exercises on Southland’s equipment training simulator.

 

Responsibilities:

​

·         Prepare sites by cleaning them, loading or unloading materials and removing hazards

·         Run some types of equipment or put together and take apart scaffolding and other temporary structures 

·         Help foreman, carpenters, and other skilled workers when necessary 

·         Remove, fill, or compact earth

·         Follow instructions from supervisors 

·         Other responsibilities as required 

 

Requirements:

​

·         Must be a current high school or college student, or recent graduate

·         Must be at least 18 years of age

·         Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks

·         Ability to work in all weather 

·         Must be punctual and reliable
