Description:

The Pile Driving Foreman is responsible for overseeing and directing all pile installation activities—including concrete and H-pile driving—for heavy civil projects such as bridges, foundations, retaining walls, and marine structures. This role provides on-site leadership, ensures safe and efficient equipment operation, verifies accurate pile placement, and maintains high-quality standards throughout all phases of the work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise pile driving crews, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.

  • Coordinate and oversee the operation of pile driving equipment (hydraulic hammers, diesel hammers, vibratory drivers, cranes, and hoisting systems).

  • Review engineering drawings, plans, and survey layouts to confirm pile locations, alignment, and required depths.

  • Direct rigging, pile alignment, splicing, and positioning activities, ensuring accuracy and safety.

  • Oversee welding and cutting tasks associated with pile splicing, templates, or bracing (welding knowledge preferred).

  • Monitor pile driving performance and verify compliance with geotechnical and structural requirements.

  • Communicate and coordinate daily with engineers, surveyors, superintendents, and site leadership.

  • Inspect equipment and ensure proper maintenance, reporting any issues requiring repair.

  • Manage setup and breakdown of pile driving rigs, leads, and related components.

  • Maintain accurate and timely pile logs, including depth, blow counts, and pile type.

  • Enforce OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies at all times and conduct safety briefings as needed.

  • Support related operations such as foundation forming, shoring, and concrete placement when required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions.

  • Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

  • Safely climb ladders, scaffolds, and pile leads at various heights.

  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching during construction activities.

  • Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception for equipment operation and pile alignment.

  • Comfortable working around heavy equipment, vibration, and loud noise.

  • Able to perform repetitive physical tasks while maintaining focus on safety and accuracy.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

 Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work on civil and infrastructure projects (bridges, marine, and foundation sites).

  • Exposure to varying terrain, weather, and typical construction site hazards.

  • Required PPE includes hard hat, gloves, safety boots, eye and hearing protection.

  • May require travel, overtime, or weekend work based on project schedules.
