Job Description: Safety Manager
Location: Apopka, FL
Southland Construction, Inc. is a general contractor providing vertical, heavy highway, and utility construction services in Florida since 1977. Southland has employed as many as 205 full time experienced people with a wide variety of talents second to none in the construction industry. We perform services for both public and private clients with projects ranging from $200,000 to $100 million.
Safety Manager Summary:
The Safety Manager plans and implements Southland’s safety program to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment on every project. Works with the project team to ensure that the best possible outcome is achieved, with the following expectations:

Safety goals are achieved on every project.

No accidents or near misses.

No OSHA citations.

Maintains OSHA logs

Employees have a positive attitude toward safe work practices.

Employees are well-educated in safe practices and have all the resources necessary to work safely.

Perform daily project site visits and perform safety inspection/assessments.
-
Furnish superintendents along with individual project manager’s inspection/assessment reports.
-
Maintain and make available inspection/assessment reports to upper management.

Observe and practice all governmental safety regulations, project requirements and company safety policies.

Analyzes and recommends corrective action for all accidents.
-
Point of contact for Owner/Client Safety Representatives.

Post all safety bulletins, safety posters, safety rules, and applicable legislation.

Prepare weekly tool box safety talks for tailgate meetings.

Coordinate the transportation of injured employees to a physician’s office or hospital.

Maintain relations with project physicians, the workers’ compensation care nurse, ambulance service, fire department and hospitals.

Orchestrate and manage safety programs.

Conduct new hire safety orientations.

Schedule and coordinate safety training and maintain log of employee training.

Maintain Safety Training library and Employees training log with supporting certifications, organized and summarized for management use. This shall include expiration dates of any and all individual training certificates, etc.

Conduct weekly and monthly project safety inspections and keep log of inspections.

Manage injury claims with Insurance Company and employee.
Preferred Skills and Experience:

Degree in Safety Management, ES&H Management or related science/construction field or equivalent experience/training.

5 years’ experience in safety management.

Knowledge of governmental ES&H standards, rules, and regulations and proficiency in applying them to construction projects.

Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting accident investigations is highly desired.
